Enjoy The Days of ’47 Celebrations
One of the most exciting times to visit Utah is during the annual Days of ’47 celebrations. Parades, a marathon, rodeo, concerts, and many more events are planned in July to commemorate the arrival in the Salt Lake Valley of the first pioneer settlers.
Three different parades are part of the annual Utah Pioneer Day celebrations. The first is located in Sandy, Utah, and it is made for horse lovers. The All Horse Parade highlights wagons, carriages, costumes, drill teams, and, yes, a gorgeous display of horses.
The Union Pacific Youth Parade is also part of the Days of ’47 celebrations, and it includes decorated floats, marching bands, and a variety of performances. The winning float will then join the Big Parade festivities that occur a week later in downtown Salt Lake City.
The Desert News Marathon has been incorporated in the Utah Pioneer Day celebrations and finishes along the Big Parade route. As the celebrations draw to a close, The Komatsu Equipment Days of '47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo closes out the festivities. This PRCA event includes bareback riding, bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and bronc riding. Competitors vie for a purse totaling a cool $1 million.
