Zakynthos also Zante, referred to in English and Italian, is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is the third largest of the Ionian Islands. Zakynthos is the most southerly of the Ionian Islands and one of the most popular Greek islands. Air travel is available to Zakyntos from most International airports including from Athens of which takes about 45 minutes. There are also charters available from European cities in the summer, and seaplanes from Corfu and Patras. Daily ferrys depart from the port of Kylini on the eastern Peloponnesian coast, to the islnad of Zakynthos.
Triangular in shape the island has three distinct geographical areas: the northwest is mountainous with quaint traditional mountain villages, the central region is a fertile plain rich with olive groves and vineyards, and the southeast is characterised by beautiful beaches.
The most famous landmark of the island is the Navagio beach. It is a cove on the southwest shore, isolated by high cliffs and accessible only by boats. The beach and sea floor are made of white pebbles,

and surrounded by turquoise waters. Numerous "Blue Caves" are cut into cliffs around Cape Skinari and accessible only by small boats. Bochali hill above the Zakynthos town contains a small venetian castle and offers panoramic views onto the town.
