New River Gorge National River
New River Gorge National River, located in southern West Virginia near Charleston, is one of the oldest rivers in the world. The New River flows through the park's 70,000 acres of beautiful rugged land, past deep canyons. Many park visitors love to white water raft on the Class III and Class V rapids, of the 53 miles of river in the park. Start on the easy rapids, in the upper part of the river and work your way to the more challenging big rapids, on the lower part of the river.
Whether you enjoy fishing, boating, climbing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking, there's plenty to do in the park. Be sure to ask about the ranger-led programs and park visitor centers.
