Explore Kings Mountain National Military Park In SC
Kings Mountain National Military Park in South Carolina honors the Battle of Kings Mountain that took place in 1780. The 4,000-acre site is accessible from I-85 and offers a Visitor Center to help you better enjoy your tour. Famous for an important battle that changed the course of the Revolutionary War, the site is one of the largest national military parks in the United States and one of only two Revolutionary War national military parks. Before the tour watch a 26-minute video that details the importance of the battle.
The exhibit area features artifacts from the Revolutionary War and provides listening stations where you can hear stories about the men who fought the battle and the strategies they used to win. A 1.5-mile hiking trail leads to the ridge where the battle took place. Visitors with more time may want to hike Clarks Creek Trail to Lake Crawford and Brown’s Mountain Trail, leading to panoramic views. Revolutionary War reenactment groups present programs at the park throughout the year. See exhibits on weapons, militia service, leather working, blacksmithing, and life skills required in the 1700s.The park is open daily, and admission is free.
