Explore Charles Pinckney National Historic Site In SC

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in South Carolina is located near Mount Pleasant. Set on 28 acres, the site was once a part of the four-term governor’s Snee Farm estate. Nicknamed “Constitution Charlie,” Pinckney was South Carolina’s delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. At 29 he was the second youngest delegate and instrumental in helping form the historic document that would become law in the United States. Stop by the Visitor Center and Museum, housed in a 19th century cottage, to view a 20-minute video that provides an overview of Pinckney’s life.

Take a self-guided tour of exhibits and view historic artifacts that have been found on the coastal plantation. A half-mile trail leads to outdoor exhibits on plantation life, archaeological excavations, outbuildings and agricultural displays.  Admire stately magnolia and live oak trees and enjoy a view of Wampacheone Creek from the boardwalk. According to historians, President George Washington visited Snee Farm in 1791 as part of a tour of the Southern states. In September each year the park hosts naturalization ceremonies to celebrate Constitution Week. The park is open daily from 9am-5pm except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
