Fish From the Piers, or Head to Sea

The South Carolina Coast, with miles of shoreline and popular beaches, is a great destination for fishermen – from avid anglers, to first timers looking for a new experience.

Fresh water fishermen head to Lake Marion, set just north of Charleston and North Charleston. Lake Marion is popular for dock fishing, and boaters who seek the bigger catches in the middle of the lake.

Closer to Ladson, many fishermen visit Lake Moultrie. With a large population of catfish and striped bass, and truly magnificent southern views, Lake Moultrie proves to be a sterling example of South Carolina coast fresh water fishing.

One of the advantages to fishing near and along the coast of South Carolina is the abundance of salt-water fishing – it is the Atlantic Ocean, after all. Visit one of the many marinas and piers that line the coast – from the warm waters of North Myrtle Beach, to as far south as Beaufort and Mount Pleasant. There are more than 60 miles of beachfront shoreline set along the Grand Strand.

For a more aquatic adventure, look for one of the many boat charters that’ll take you and the family a few miles out to sea – that’s where the real big fish swim. Look for Murrells Inlet Charters, or the popular Low Country Fishing Charters with David Cutler.

If the kids end up going fishless but still want their fill of marine life, head to the Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach – a terrific destination for kids and adults.
