Best Road Trips in Kentucky
Hit the road and see the Bluegrass State this summer, have a scenic adventure in Kentucky this winter, and just plain enjoy yourself any time in between.
Why not start with the Bourbon Trail? This is the kind of tour you can start and finish any which way you want! You can base yourself out of Louisville, Shelbyville, Lexington, Lawrenceburg, Frankfort, or even the Bourbon Capital of the World, Bardstown.
Now try the Quilts to Caves Tour. From the Mississippi River to the Appalachian Mountains, Kentucky traverses a wide range of landforms, history, and beauty. We’ll take you from the Ohio River banks and the “Quilt Capital” of Paducah to the stunning, extensive cave systems around the appropriately-named Cave City. Along the way: universities, Corvette heaven, Civil War history, outdoor recreation and underground adventures, and more.
On our Caves to Cumberland Tour, we enjoy a national park with the world’s largest cave system and then it everything named “Cumberland” – a lake system along the Cumberland River, the impressive Cumberland Falls and its unique “moonbow,” and finally Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. There’s even an historic stop in Corbin to try chicken at Colonel Sanders’ original restaurant.
Explore central Kentucky on the Gold, Lincoln & Sluggers Tour. Middle Kentucky is filled with rural scenery, historic attractions, museums, and more; the state’s largest city, Louisville, offers everything from Churchill Downs to a bustling downtown punctuated by statues, skyscrapers, and “Sluggers” – Louisville Slugger bats, to be precise. On this tour, we get a taste of small town Kentucky and big city Kentucky, with the world’s most famous gold reserve along the way.
