Andersonville National Historic Site
Serving as a tribute to fallen Civil War soldiers, Andersonville National Historic Site is located just north of the central Georgia city of Americus. Constructed in the spring of 1864, Andersonville NHS encompasses 514 acres, the site is operated by the National Park Service. A U.S. National Historic Site found on the National Register of Historic Places, Andersonville offers attractions like the National Prisoner of War Museum, and the Andersonville National Cemetery.
Visitors may sign up for a ranger-led tour of the prison site, or rent a CD or cassette from the Visitor Center for the free, hour-long driving tour of Andersonville NHS.
