Discover the Natural Beauty of Wyoming’s Bighorn Canyon

Explore Wyoming’s Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area and enjoy scenic wonders plus a variety of outdoor recreation. Spanning over 120,000 acres, the park offers 17 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate and difficult.

Enjoy picturesque vistas at the Devil’s Canyon Overlook or Yellowtail Dam. The Hillsboro Trail leads to a well-preserved ghost town, and Sullivan’s Knob Trail is a fun place to listen to your voice echo through the canyon. Bike the South District Park Road for incredible views, or challenge yourself to a workout along Ok-A-Beh Road. Sail along Bighorn Lake and marvel at soaring views of the towering canyon walls or fish for giant walleyes.

Catch a glimpse of the largest herd of wild horses in the country and thrill to the site of bighorn sheep in the wild. Bird watchers can view hundreds of bird species in a diverse landscape including lakes, wetlands, valleys, prairies, canyons, forests, and mountains. Bighorn Canyon is also the site of fossils, fossil tracks and bones from the Upper Jurassic Period. The Bighorn Canyon Research Center at Ewing-Snell Historic Ranch is one of four 1890s ranches restored at the park.
