Ames Monument

At a cost of $65,000, the Ames Monument was successfully completed in 1882, serving as a monument to the Ames brothers. Oakes and Oliver Ames used their wealth and influence to help guide the completion of the first coast to coast railroad in North America.

The Union Pacific Railroad Companycommissioned American architect Henry Hobson Richardson to design and build the monument.

The Ames Monument is found off of Ironhorse Road and Monument Road in rural Wyoming, nearly 20 miles southeast from nearby Laramie. The Ames Monument stands at 60 feet tall and is a monolithic pyramid.
