Marvel At The Fossils At Dinosaur National Monument

Situated to the north of the Utah/Colorado border in East Jensen, Dinosaur National Monument lives up to its name. Here, you can find not only deep canyons and roaming rivers as part of the Monument’s 200,000 acres but also a fascinating grouping of dinosaur fossil beds.

When you arrive, begin your explorations at the Quarry Visitor Center. It’s filled with interesting exhibits and useful park and trail maps and shows a short orientation film that will allow you to better appreciate the Monument. From there, you can take the shuttle bus to the Quarry Exhibit Hall which holds 149-million-year-old bones that make any dinosaur enthusiast applaud.

After enjoying the exhibits, you can easily start hiking the trails that run through the park. Harpers Corner presents stunning vistas, including views of the Green River, Colorado Plateau, and Split Mountain Canyon. Cub Creek Area takes you into the Josie Bassett Marris Ranch and the Fossil Discovery Trail.

If your vehicle allows it, you can explore Yampa Bench Road and Echo Park Road along unpaved roads, or take to the waters off the banks of the Green River. Don’t miss the Echo Park’s impressive Steamboat Rock in your explorations.
