Clearwater National Forest

Be sure to pack hiking boots on your next visit to Idaho. Clearwater National Forest encompasses 1.8 million acres of land in northern Idaho near Orofino.

This incredible National Forest is not only a wonderful forested area, but also features the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers that flow through the land.

From 1805 to 1806, famed explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark journeyed through this area, during their expedition to the Pacific Coast.

Lewis and Clark traversed along the Lolo Trail, a centuries-old path used by indigenous peoples, that remains sacred to the Nez Perce Indians today.
