Nebraska State Capitol

The historic Nebraska State Capitol building is set in the center of the state, in Lincoln. The building took 10 years to construct, beginning in 1922 and finishing in 1932. The building is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.

This is the third capitol building in the state. Unlike the first two relatively modest structures, the current capitol is a dramatic presence. At 15 stories, it's both the tallest and the heaviest building in Lincoln.

The building is home to the Nebraska Legislature along with other government offices. Visit the building and take an elevator to the observation decks for views from the 14th floor. The floor is also home to the Memorial Chamber, honoring heroism in public service and Nebraskan history. The building is open until 5 p.m. daily, with tours given hourly except at noon. A tour isn't necessary for visiting the observation deck.
