Green Thumb Thrives, Missouri Gardens
Make the most out of your visit to Missouri by exploring some of its verdant beauty and floral exhibits.
Forest Park Jewel Box
Completed in 1937, the Jewel Box is a greenhouse in St. Louis, Missouri’s Forest Park. Also known as the St. Louis Floral Conservatory and the City of St. Louis Floral Display House, the building now acts as a horticultural facility.
The surrounding garden complex draws visitors with its picturesque reflecting pool, which complements the building’s striking Art Deco architecture. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in early 2000, the Jewel Box defies greenhouse convention with its wooden roofs – designed to protect it against the frequent eastern Missouri hailstorms.
Missouri Botanical Garden
Established in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is a National Historic Landmark located in the heart of St. Louis.
The garden is one of first botanical gardens founded in the United States, helping it become named to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The garden, sitting at 79 acres in size, is an eastern Missouri must-see, housing a variety of attractions and constructs, like the Shaw Nature Reserve and Climatron.
Be sure and explore the collection of scenic, international gardens, and don’t miss the garden’s many cultural festivals held throughout the year.
