Government Sites & Buildings in Vermont

If you're visiting the capital of Vermont, Montpelier, a visit to the Vermont State House should be on your list of things to do. Built in 1833, the building is impressive, its Neoclassical and Greek Revival architecture capped by a gold leaf dome. The setting is impressive as well, just north of the Winooski River.

The current Vermont State House is the third to be built on this site. While it's been renovated to serve its modern function, the interior retains 19th century décor. The business of the Vermont General Assembly takes place here, but the Vermont State House is also open for tours. Take a self-guided tour with audio wand for additional insights. During the winter season, free Farmers Night Concerts are a tradition that brings musicians in a variety of genres to the House Chamber.
