Coastal Virginia Race Tracks are a Must

Head for the Virginia Motor Speedway and the Langley Speedway

Your next trek through Virginia should see you exploring the vast coastal region. From Chesapeake and all it's beaches, to Exmore, Chincoteague, and Newport News – you'll find much to see and do along the VA coast. One of the most popular, yet seemingly under-appreciated events along the coast happens to auto racing.

Visit and experience local racing at it's best at the Virginia Motor Speedway. Found in the city of Jamaica, the Virginia Motor Speedway is known for dirt track racing. The 1/2 mile clay track at the Virginia Motor Speedway features 14 degree banks in both corners, and 4 degree banks on the back stretch and home stretch.

Drive in from nearby Williamsburg and see the races – everything from World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, mud bogs, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, and plenty of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series races.

You'll want to grab your tickets early and often, as their are only 8,000 seats at the Virginia Motor Speedway. However, there is 20 acres of open parking. The racing season at the Virginia Motor Speedway kicks off on select Saturday nights in the month of April, and heading right through to October. There are no races whenever the Richmond International Raceway hosts any NASCAR event.

Another charming coastal Virginia city is Hampton. When you stay in Hampton, be sure to visit the Langley Speedway, one of the top asphalt racing tracks along the coast. Opened in 1950, Langley Speedway seats nearly 9,000 race fans, and is host-track of the Hampton Heat 200, a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race. Langley Speedway is .395 miles long, and is known to be one of the fastest tracks to due minimal banking.
