Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is located on the southern end of Assateague Island, near Chincoteague Island, north of Virginia Beach.
This wonderful island habitat is comprised of over 14,000 acres of beaches, freshwater marshes, salt marshes and maritime forests.
A variety of animals live in the refuge including, migratory waterfowl, white-tailed deer, snapping turtles, river otter, red fox, bottlenose dolphin and the island's Chincoteague Ponies.
While visiting this incredible refuge, enjoy a tour of the Assateague Lighthouse for wonderful views of the island or partake in a Wildlife Bus Tour.
Fishing, crabbing, horseback riding, boating and kayaking are also fun activities. Stroll through the Visitor Center to view the displays and learn more about the refuge.
