Discover the Historic Lighthouses in Minnesota

No stop to Minnesota is complete without checking out the essential and romanticized lighthouses that are in still in existence.

Two Harbors, MN, a short drive north of Duluth, is home to two legendary lighthouses for you to visit. Split Rock Lighthouse of Two Harbors sits on a cliff overlooking Lake Superior. This lighthouse, built in 1910, lit the way into the harbor with a 1000-watt bulb located on a 130-foot cliff. Walk in the century-old footsteps of the lighthouse keepers and come face-to-face with the 1000-watt bulb. Feel free to climb the 32-steps to the top of the lighthouse to explore alone or join a formal tour.

The second lighthouse, the Two Harbors Light Station, is the oldest operating lighthouse in Minnesota.  This historic lighthouse is built of red bricks. The tower stands 50 feet above the keeper’s residence. The lighthouse also serves as a bed and breakfast spot.

Both lighthouses are popular hiking areas too. The scenic and rustic beauty of Minnesota makes for a very popular photography stop, especially during the autumn seasonal color change of the trees, so make sure you got what you came for.
