Juneau & Ketchikan on the AK Marine Highway

For the Alaska Marine Highway System, the southeastern Alaskan coast is home to a collection of key cities and landmarks.

For instance, the Alaska Marine Highway has its headquarters in Ketchikan, while Juneau is a major hub for the AMHS.

The southeastern end of the AMHS line dips into Washington and British Columbia, and begins to wind its way between the Prince of Wales Island and Revillagigedo Island – then continues past Kupreanof Island, Baranof Island, and Admiratty Island.

The southeastern section of the AMHS route also encompasses 19 SEAtrails communities – a collection of 75 Alaskan trails ideal for hiking, biking, and kayaking.

Set on Revillagigedo Island, Ketchikan is the fifth largest city in Alaska. Home to the AMHS headquarters; Ketchikan is a lively stopping point along the southeastern route.

Passengers may disembark from the AMHS vessel, and explore Ketchikan attractions such as the Totem Heritage Center, and the stunning Misty Fjords National Park.

Roughly 300 miles northwest of Ketchikan, the capital city of Juneau is set in the Gastineau Channel – and is a major hub for the AMHS. Passengers may explore the Alaska State Museum, the Alaska State Capitol, and enjoy some time on their land-legs at the Point Bridget State Park.
