Take To The Streets For Utah’s Desert News Marathon
Marathon runners, walkers and spectators come from around the country for the exciting annual Desert News Marathon that is an important part of the Utah Pioneer Day festivities. The race takes athletes through scenic downtown Salt Lake City to the cheers of thousands of supporters.
The Desert News Marathon is a USATF-sanctioned event, and it is considered a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. In addition to the full marathon, there is half-marathon, a 10K race, and a “Read Today” 5K non-competitive walk.
The Marathon begins up at Emigration Canyon, winds through the streets of Salt Lake City and meets its finish line near the Pioneer Day parade route and Liberty Park. Every participant in the events of the Desert News Marathon gets a souvenir, event t-shirt, and there are prizes granted to the female and male marathon runners placing first, second and third.
All in all, it is a terrific series of events for participants and supporters, and it has become an integral part of the Utah Pioneer Day celebrations. Book a room at a nearby Best Western hotel and join in on all the fun!
