Western Entertainment at Its Best at Rodeos in Washington State

For over 90 years Washington has helped wrangle in the western past time of rodeos. With the historic Omak Stampede and acclaimed Ellensburg Rodeo within its borders, volunteers have long been working to get Washington recognized as a contender. That hard work has paid off earning Ellensburg a spot on the distinguished list of one of America’s Top 25 Professional Rodeos.

Having held its first rodeo in 1923 in conjunction with the Kittitas County Fair, the Ellensburg Rodeo has grown to a professionally recognized operation that draws in world-class competition every year. You are invited to ‘get your cowboy on’ every Labor Day for electrifying performances including the Xtreme Bulls Tour, rough stock, and timed events.

Omak Stampede hosts its annual rodeo and celebration during the second weekend of August. Known for the world-famous Suicide Race in which horses and riders plunge down 225-foot bluff in to a river below, the three-day extravaganza if filled with non-stop action. From a carnival to kids’ night to the Indian Encampment and Pow Wow, there’s something for everyone at Omak Stampede.

Washington State Fair and other county fairs throughout the summer host smaller renditions of the rodeo. Champions of the Justin Boots Finale at the State Fair have the chance to go on to the National Finals Rodeo.

Ellensburg Rodeo

An annual Labor Day Weekend event since 1923, the Ellensburg Rodeo is one of the oldest rodeo's in America. This Ellensburg tradition is the final rodeo in the Wrangler Million Dollar Gold Tour. More than 600 riders, wrestlers, and ropers compete in the Washington Cascades.

Things kick off with the opening of the Kittitas County Fair, the carnival rides and the Rodeo Hoedown. The Friday night opening rodeo performance is an exciting beginning to the events, while the pancake breakfast and parade on Saturday, get everyone ready for a day of action.

Omak Stampede

Held at the Omak Arena, the Omak Stampede is an annual rodeo event located in northern Washington’s Cascade region in the city of Omak. Established in 1933, this four-day celebration includes the Grand Parade, and is capped by the World Famous Suicide Race.

Now running for over 80 year, the Omak Stampede features the PRCA rodeo, plus accompanying events like the Davis Shows Carnival, Wrangler Kids Night, Western & Native Art Show, and Vendor Row. Other events include the Indian Encampment & Pow Wow, and annual Miss Omak Stampede contest.
