Knoxville is the Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
You won’t be at a loss of things to do in Knoxville, the hub of tourism, entertainment, and special events in eastern Tennessee. Located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this is the place to enjoy a variety of outdoor adventures and indoor activities during your getaway. During the spring and summer, head to the parks for hiking and nature explorations. If you’re in the area in April, don’t miss the chance to attend Rhythm N Bloom Fest, the ultimate commemoration to American roots music. It’s held at several destinations across downtown Knoxville, including the Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum and the Tennessee Theatre.
Spring is also a great time to visit the Knoxville Farmers’ Market. Taste the freshest produce from local growers and sample food from local food trucks. This can be a fun way to meet the locals and try some in-season foods.
During the fall, sports fever takes over the city so you can enjoy college football at its best. Many sports fans will appreciate a tour of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame that sits along the Tennessee River just a few minutes from downtown Knoxville. Head to the University of Tennessee campus during football season to watch a game at Neyland Stadium.
The winter months may keep you indoors but there’s still plenty to do and explore. Catch a performance at the Tennessee Theatre, take a tour of the Knoxville Museum of Art or visit the East Tennessee History Center. The Mabry-Hazen House Museum is another must-visit destination for history enthusiasts.
