Discover the Museums of Kansas

Kansas is home to more than 300 museums ranging from fine art facilities to Presidential libraries.

Learn about the “Old West” and Dodge City’s prominent role in this time in American history with a visit to the Boot Hill Museum. This must-visit attraction will take you back to the days of cowboys and the wild, wild west. Here, you can interact with fun exhibits and enjoy entertaining activities, like the High Noon Gunfight.

Take a drive east to Abilene and take a tour of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum. This facility allows you to Explore the boyhood home, final resting place, and library of the 34th President of the United States. Keep going east, right along the Missouri River, and you will find the Atchison County Historical Society Museum showcasing Lewis & Clark expedition exhibits and Amelia Earhart artifacts.

Other interesting museums throughout the state include the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum in Arkansas City, Wichita Art Museum, and Cosmosphere & Space Center in Hutchinson, and the Big Well in Greensburg.

The Big Well

This hand-dug well was completed in 1887. It is counted among the Kansas “Eight Wonders” and welcomes visitors to descend into the well and explore the museum which details its history.

The museum preserves the rich history of farming life in 1890, the Cherokee Strip Land Rush of 1893 and the cultures impacted.
