Maryland's National Parks
Known by some as the Old Line State, and by others as America in Miniature, Maryland is home to a wide range of exciting and historic landmarks and attractions. Plan your next visit to Maryland and check out any of the 16 national parks found in across the state.
Western Maryland is known for lush, forested mountains – the closer you get to Baltimore, the more and more historic sites you'll find. Each year, nearly seven million visitors pass through the gates at the Maryland's National Parks. There are also six National Natural Landmarks, 72 National Historic Landmarks, and two National Heritage Areas.
Fort Foote Park was built in 1863 at the top of Rozier's Bluff in an effort to strengthen the defenses of the White House in DC. Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine is known to be the site which sparked Francis Scott Key's inspiration to write The Star-Spangled Banner.
