Missouri Offers Spectacular Summer Shows At The Muny
Get some alfresco ear candy at the St. Louis Municipal Open Theatre, what locals call “The Muny”, is America’s oldest and largest amphitheater. Running every year from mid-June to mid-August, The Muny seats 11,000 people in its outdoor setting in Forest Park, and some seats are even free.
Opened over ninety years ago, The Muny originally produced recent operas but now produces more contemporary musicals like Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz, as well as some Muny originals. Add it all up and you get Broadway-quality theatre with an air of Midwestern wholesomeness.
All Muny shows are rehearsed within just eleven days and audience members even get to participate in which plays are selected for production when filling out a survey. Shows typically run for one week, from Monday to Sunday. Make it a point to check out one of their entertaining shows in the summer and rest assured it will be a highlight when visiting Missouri.
