Haitian Carnival

Spanning several weeks, the annual Haitian Carnival is a massive celebration held each spring in Port-au-Prince near Petion-Ville. Also known as Haitian Defile Kanaval, this Caribbean event leads up to Mardi Gras – and is Haiti’s largest annual event.

Beginning in January, Kanaval features vast parades, live music, food and libations, dancing, costumes, and more. Kanaval is held throughout the city and in smaller communities like Jacmel and Aux Cayes.
