The Arts in Michigan
Visitors to downtown Detroit have plenty of historical sites to see while in town. One of the most popular destinations for travelers to the area is the Fisher Building. Built in 1928, this renovated, Art Deco style skyscraper is home to the Fisher Theatre.
This elaborate theater was originally designed with a Mayan Revival style and seated up to 3,500 people. It has since been renovated to a mid-century designed playhouse, seats 2,089 guests, and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Over the years, the Fisher Theatre has hosted Broadway productions, like Hello, Dolly!, Golden Boy, Sweet Charity and Fiddler on the Roof.
Throughout Michigan, travelers will come across big, bold works of art created by residents of the region and galleries showcasing works from renowned artists. Some offer into the past traditions of the area, while others highlight the next generation of artistic styles, and viewpoints. While some of the galleries are for exhibition purposes only, many offer the opportunity to purchase a one-of-a-kind souvenir that speaks to you.
