The Sound of Music in Vermont

There's plenty of music filling the mountains of Vermont. The local sound is mixed folk and rock, and there are plenty of local bands playing in bars and clubs throughout the state.

Higher Ground in Burlington is in a converted cinema, and its performance spaces attract top name entertainment, in music, comedy, and other genres. Many performances are standing room only, so come prepared to stand-or to move to the beat! Nectar's and Club Metronome are two other well-known music clubs in Burlington. The Monkey House draws bands and music lovers to Winooski almost every night.

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is based in Burlington but performs around the state. Concerts feature choral and chamber music. Yellow Barn in Putney is another center for chamber music.

Festivals throughout the state also offer concerts. The Champlain Valley Fair is known for its music program; the Manchester Music Festival offers seven weeks of classical music concerts.
